Under the watchful and ever vigilant eye of the Hyperion CAG (Command Air Group), Major Joe Haight, the pilots on board the Hyperion are some of the finest officers in the fleet. All have spent many hours in the cockpit of their ships, painstakingly searching for supplies and resources, and ruining the day of many a toaster. They are truly among the best of the best.

Known as the "Guardians of the Fleet", Colonial Pilots are tasked with the protection of the fleet, flying both reconnaissance and scouting missions, and, when called upon to do so, engaging in air to air combat with Cylon Forces. Pilots are officers in the Colonial Fleet, trained and qualified to operate a Viper fighter or a Raptor multipurpose aircraft. In addition, those pilots that score 100% on their flight exams have the honor of being listed on the "Top Gun" plaque in the Pilot Ready Room.
